Law Enforcement Conduct Commission finds former senior constable who disclosed confidential police information engaged in serious misconduct

Wednesday 3 September 2025

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission has made findings of serious misconduct against a police officer who repeatedly disclosed confidential police information to family, friends and other associates.

The Commission also found the officer did not properly declare relationships with friends and family who had previous contact with police, and this led to a further finding of serious misconduct.

Evidence obtained during the Commission’s investigation revealed the officer’s unauthorised accesses and disclosures were frequent and occurred across several years. His actions were motivated by personal curiosity and a desire to assist family and friends, not personal gain.

The Commission’s investigation supplemented a NSW Police Force investigation. Officer Khatib pleaded guilty to several offences and was sentenced in the District Court. He was removed from the NSW Police Force in December 2024, by the Commissioner of Police.

The Chief Commissioner, the Hon Peter Johnson SC said:

“Although Officer Khatib did not intend to help criminal associates when he disclosed confidential police information, there was a clear risk that the information could end up in the wrong hands.”

“Conduct of this nature creates a serious risk to the individuals whose information is disclosed. It also risks the reputation and public trust in the NSW Police Force."

“The NSW Police Force led a prompt and thorough investigation in this matter, culminating in the officer’s prosecution and conviction. The Commission acknowledges their good work.”
