NSW Police Force responds to Commission reviews of use-of-force and police responses to domestic and family violence

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission has published the NSW Police Force’s two official replies comprising 24 responses to recommendations made in two Commission reports on its website today.

The NSW Police Force provided the Commission with 11 responses to the Commission’s review of use-of-force reporting and 13 responses to the Commission’s review of police responses to domestic and family violence incidents.

For the Commission’s review of use-of-force reporting police agreed to update its use-of-force manual and training and indicated support for nine of the review’s 11 recommendations.

The Commission’s publication of the police reply to the review of use-of-force reporting comes after the review was tabled in February this year.

The NSW Police Force said they would use all 13 recommendations from the Commission’s review of police responses to family and domestic violence incidents in their ongoing reform of police response to domestic violence incidents but indicated formal acceptance of only ten of the 13 recommendations.

The availability of the police response comes after the Commission’s review of police responses to family and domestic violence incidents was tabled in June this year.

Chief Commissioner Peter Johnson SC described the significance of the police responses.

“The Commission is committed to following up on the outcomes of our recommendations. As a type of standing Royal Commission we can work with the NSW Police Force after we deliver our reports to help ensure issues are addressed,” he said.
